Successful Class Action Settlement

In June 2016, Bill Padget, along with co-counsel from
Richardson, Patrick, Westbrook & Brickman, LLC, obtained final approval of a class action settlement on behalf of hundreds
of former members of the Big Water Resort Campground. The RV campground
is located in Clarendon County, South Carolina on Lake Marion. It was
alleged that between 2003 and 2010 the entities and individuals behind
the formation and operations of the campground sold approximately 1100
lifetime memberships for an initial cost between $4,000 and $8,400 per
membership. The plaintiffs contended that in 2011 the campground and RV
park was converted from a private members only facility to a public facility.
Those who had paid thousands for their private memberships sued claiming
their memberships were now rendered worthless due to the conversion to
a public facility. After several years of litigation, the class action
case was settled for a total settlement benefit to the class of $1,850,000.00.
The claims process is nearing completion and those campground members
who timely filed claims will receive substantial compensation in exchange
for redemption of their membership interest.
