Marcedes K. Smith is a Litigation Attorney in our Charleston office.

Marcedes was born in San Antonio, Texas and raised in Marion, South Carolina.She graduated from Francis Marion University (Florence, SC) in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. Marcedes was very active on campus, working in the math center one semester and the writing center seven semesters. Marcedes was the Student Government Association President 2017-2018 and Ms. FMU 2017. Marcedes was also involved in several other organizations including the FMU Honors Program, FMU Diplomats, Phi Beta Lambda business fraternity, NAACP, honor societies for English and Political Science, and FMU Leadership. As a McNair scholar, Marcedes studied abroad in Leicester, England at De Montfort University the fall semester of her junior year. While at De Montfort, Marcedes took classes focusing on International Relations and Politics. Marcedes enjoyed research and writing in college. Her honor’s thesis focused on the dismantling of the Black Panther Party, and she also conducted and presented grant-funded research through FMU’s political science department focusing on news and media outlets exacerbation of fear within the public.

Marcedes graduated from Charleston School of Law in December of 2020. While in law school, Marcedes was involved in several organizations including Trial Advocacy Board (Vice President of Media Relations 2019-2020), the KJW Black Law Student Association (Parliamentarian 2019-2020), the Federal Bar Association and Alliance for Equality. Marcedes was awarded the “Best Closing Statement” during the Trial Advocacy Board Internal Competition in 2019. Her third year in law school, Marcedes worked as a law clerk and Graduate Assistant at the College of Charleston. Marcedes was awarded the Pro Bono Populi award at CSOL for performing over 100 hours of pro bono work through her law school career.

After being admitted into the South Carolina Bar in 2021, Marcedes was named an Associate Attorney at Condon Family Law & Mediation where she practiced in family law dealing with matters such as divorce, child custody disputes and adoption. Marcedes is also qualified to serve as a Guardian Ad Litem in South Carolina. Marcedes is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, the Charleston County Bar Association, and the Dorchester County Bar Association.

Marcedes joined Finkel Law Firm in March 2022 as an Associate Attorney in the Litigation Department. Her practice is focused on handling property disputes with an emphasis on the collection of debts for community associations.
