J. Alton Bivens received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1995 and his Masters in Taxation Law from New York University School of Law in 1996.

Mr. Bivens is certified as a Specialist in Taxation Law by the S.C. Supreme Court.  His areas of practice include the representation of individuals, of for-profit businesses, and of non-profit and charitable organizations on an extensive variety of federal, state, and local tax matters. Mr. Bivens represents individuals and their corporations or other business entities in business start-up matters, tax and business planning, tax controversies, business and asset acquisitions, corporate mergers and business entity conversions, stock redemption and buy-out agreements, contract negotiations and business disputes, and succession planning. Mr. Bivens also works with individuals in matters of estate planning, wills, trusts, and probate administration and controversy resolution.
