Mr. Merli was born in Brooklyn, New York, January 17, 1953. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and secondary education from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1976. He taught high school science prior to attending law school. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1982.

Mr. Merli is admitted to practice in South Carolina and Texas . He is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and the Charleston County Bar Association.

Mr. Merli currently practices in the Firm's foreclosure division. Prior to joining Finkel Law Firm LLC, Mr. Merli practiced real estate and insurance defense locally. Before moving to Charleston , he worked as a staff attorney for the Federal Labor Relations Authority and also served as a JAG in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Merli is married and has two sons.
